Join me in supporting congenital heart defect research!
SHE IZZ STRONG
Please join us in raising funds for CHD research on behalf of our granddaughter, Izzie, who was born in March 2021 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and several other heart defects.
With HLHS, essentially only half of Izzie’s heart works and she underwent her first open-heart surgery (the Glenn) at 6 months old and will need another (the Fontan) anywhere between 2-5 years old, to help change her circulation.
These surgeries do not ‘fix’ her heart, rather help her live with her unique anatomy, and the unfortunate reality is that there is currently NO CURE for Congenital Heart Defects. Surgeries for Izzie’s particular defect were not successful until about 30 years ago, so the research and advances in treatment are still relatively new.
Izzie continues to inspire us with how well she’s doing despite her complex medical condition and we’re hopeful that with continued research, Izzie will be able to live a long, full, happy life!
