Meet Lyndi. Lyndi was born February 2020 with double outlet right ventricle with mitral valve atresia- a variant of hypoplastic left heart syndrome(HLHS), partial anomalous pulmonary venous return(PAPVR), as well as a tracheoesphageal fistula (TEF). Her CHD was discovered at her mom’s 20 week anatomy scan but her TEF went undetected until after birth. She was born at Mott Children’s Hospital and underwent her first surgery to correct her TEF at 1 day old. A week later she had her first open heart surgery. She was discharged 5 weeks later and spent 6 wonderful months playing and growing at home.
She came in for her Hemi-Fontan on September 1st. This is where her CHD journey stopped following the predicted path. Her Hemi-Fontan failed and 3 days later she had to return to the OR for an emergency surgery, and afterward she spent 3 days on ECMO. She spent another 5 weeks recovering from her surgeries only to return again in December for a heart cath procedure, where she spent her first Christmas in recovery. After a month she was finally able to go home.
On April 26th, Lyndi underwent her 4th open heart surgery and has begun her journey of recovery which has included 2 more open heart surgeries as of June 1st. Even when Lyndi is recovering in the hospital she’s a happy social butterfly who loves to lure staff in to play with her. She loves music and books and would do just about anything to spend time with some puppies!
