Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Congenital Heart Walk.
My youngest son, Canon, was born on July 19, 2018. Several hours after he was born, a very attentive newborn nursery nurse noticed he seemed slightly blue and asked to take him away for more testing. After what seemed like the longest 5 hours of my life, a pediatric cardiologist walked into my room and proceeded to explain that my tiny newborn baby had multiple severe and complex heart defects. He explained he would need multiple surgeries and that there was no cure or full repair for his heart, only palliative surgeries. Canon was diagnosed with Double Inlet Left Ventricle, Levo-Transposition of the great arteries, and pulmonary valve atresia. He is known as a single ventricle patient- instead of having a 4 chambered heart, he only has 3. Canon had his first heart surgery (central shunt) at only 7 days old, his second (the Glenn) at 6 months, and his third open heart surgery (the Fontan) shortly before his 3rd birthday. While we are so thankful he is thriving now, we live with the harsh reality of knowing that could change overnight. Fontan patients can encounter many issues with their liver and other organs, leading to liver and heart failure. Many single ventricle children/adults go on to need a liver and heart transplant. The Fontan is an imperfect long term circulation. As a parent, I have vowed to do all that I can to help fund critical CHD research that will lead to more promising treatment options for my boy and his heart.
Raising funds for CHD research is critically important to all Heart Warriors and Heart Angels, and personally very meaningful to our family.
Please help us to fund CHD research by making a donation to my personal fundraising page. Together we can make a life-saving difference!
