Virtual Congenital Heart Walk

Jack's Joggers

Jack was born with half a heart (Hypoplastic left heart syndrome - HLHS) on March 11, 2014. Since his condition wasn't detected in utero, he had his first airplane ride at just a day old. At just 7 days old he had his first open heart surgery (March 18, 2014). He had his 2nd open-heart surgery on July 29, 2014, at 4 months old. His third open heart surgery was on July 27, 2016. He has also had four heart catheterizations and a diaphragm plication surgery. He is going in his for his 5th heart cath on October 28. HLHS is one of the most complex heart conditions one could have. Even the surgeries are not a fix. They simply prolong his life as long as possible. He will need a transplant as some point in his life-could be weeks, months, years. He is also susceptible to other life-threatening health issues due to the way his heart works.

We are relying on advances in science to keep Jack as healthy as possible, and give him the best chance at life. The Children's Heart Foundation directly funds the research to make a good (and hopefully long) quality of life possible. Congenital heart defects are the most commonly occurring birth defect, affecting approximately 1 in 110 babies born, or a child born every 15 minutes. Congenital heart defects are the leading cause of birth-defect related mortality. Every dollar in support of The Children’s Heart Foundation helps to further their mission: to fund the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects.

Please join our team! Jack's cath is coming up on October 28 in Boston, and we'd love to show Jack how much support he has. He's six years old now, and this is the first time he's aware of an upcoming procedure (and he's terrified). We will be flying to Boston on Oct 22, so I will run 26.2 miles for Jack and all our heart warriors on the Saturday before we go, October 17. The run/walk is October 22-25-pick any of those days that work for you, and you can choose any distance. Any donation to the Children's Heart Foundation is greatly appreciated. We'd also love to have you post on Baby Jack's Facebook page after your walk or run! Thank you for all the love and support you continually give. <3
