Detroit Congenital Heart Walk

Team Olivia Alexandra

Welcome to Team Olivia!

Olivia was born with 3 congenital heart defects in 2017. Becoming a mother was terrifying yet exciting! However, finding out your child has something wrong with her heart, a vital organ needed to survive, was the most difficult thing I've ever been through.

At first I wasn't sure to what extent her heart needed repairing, the amount of appointments continued to add up and the fear grew. I knew more than anything though, that I would do anything I needed to do to learn about what my daughter needed, her diagnosis, and be the best mom I could be regardless of the circumstance.

The last 3 years have been a WHIRLWIND and we have come out on TOP! Her medical team has given her so much support and she has grown. I'm so proud of her triumphs and who my daughter has become, and I'm not sure how we would've gotten here if it wasn't for organizations like The Children's Heart Foundation.

Congenital heart defects are the most commonly occurring birth defect, affecting approximately 1 in 110 babies born, or a child born every 15 minutes. Congenital heart defects are the leading cause of birth-defect related mortality. Funded research is making a very big difference in the lives of CHD patients, helping to reduce incidences and increase survival, longevity and quality of life.

Research has made a very big impact, and with survival and longevity increasing, even more research is needed to help address lifelong challenges that CHD patients will face.

Every dollar in support of The Children’s Heart Foundation helps to further their mission: to fund the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects.
