Welcome to My Personal Page
Stella Birdie was born March 28, 2021 surrounded by family and friends welcoming her to the world. Her birth was incredible and beautiful and we were relishing in that moment, staring at our angel girl when our world came crashing down. She was struggling to breathe and was very unstable and no one could figure out why. Several long hours later we finally had an official diagnosis, Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries (with a small ASD). I could not understand how our baby, with 4 perfectly normal ultrasounds could have such a serious heart defect. Our Birdie girl underwent two surgeries during our month long stay at Levine Children's Hospital and given the circumstances we couldn't have asked for a better team of doctors, nurses or therapists. We were amazing at the God given talent of the surgeons and everyone in the CVICU staff but also floored that in this day and age there are still very serious and fatal defects that cannot be seen in a typical ultrasound. This is our why, so that hopefully one day they will have better imaging and more information and maybe parents won't have to go through what we went through. We were unprepared, terrified for her life, her future, scared out of our minds, we had no idea what was going on! We were unable to hold our baby girl for hours on end or pick her up and comfort her when she cried. We couldn't introduce her to her sisters or have family come and meet her! We missed out on the normalcy of bringing a new life into the world! Because of God's grace, she is alive and well, amazing all of us daily. The sheer talent and ability of the staff at Levine is unprecedented, we just want to do what little we can to further that!
