Welcome to My Personal Page
I am excited to say that my team, Bridge to a Cure, is working with The Children’s Heart Foundation as part of their “2021 Cleveland Congenital Heart Walk”! The 2021 Cleveland Congenital Heart Walk is not only a one-day event, but a weeks-long campaign to help fund congenital heart defect (CHD) research. Our team’s goal is to raise $1,000, and we would love your help!
The Children’s Heart Foundation was started in 1996 and is the “country's leading organization solely dedicated to funding congenital heart defect (CHD) research.” Since its inception, The Children’s Heart Foundation has donated almost $14 million in CHD research and has been crucial in funding life-changing treatments. The Children’s Heart Foundation has been at the forefront of nationally recognized research and has helped to lower the death rate from CHDs by 37.5% since 1999.
While these accomplishments are a colossal step towards improving the lives of those born with congenital heart defects (CHD), more research still needs to be done - meaning many more funds are needed. We must raise as much money as possible. Every 15 minutes, a baby is born with a CHD - this makes them the most common birth defect in the United States. Around 15% of babies born with a CHD will not survive to adulthood. Currently, there is no cure for CHDs. These are just a few reasons why researchers need our help!
For me, funding congenital heart defect (CHD) research is deeply personal. In late 2020, I was diagnosed with a myocardial bridge - a type of CHD. Myocardial bridges limit blood flow to the heart by constricting the coronary arteries. This can possibly lead to issues such as interruptions in the heart’s electrical system and/or lack of oxygen - potentially leading to severe chest pain and potentially death. Fortunately, myocardial bridges can be surgically fixed. On December 16th, 2020, I successfully underwent a novel type of open heart surgery to remove my myocardial bridge. Without research funding from organizations such as The Children’s Heart Foundation, I do not know if surgery would have been an option for me.
I know that we can meet our fundraising goal and bring us closer to a world where no one has to suffer from a congenital heart defect (CHD). But we cannot do it without your support! Any donation, no matter what size, has an impact. Your donation will be extremely helpful in funding research efforts - all in the name of treating CHDs. Most donations are tax-deductible!
