Team Baby Sammy - Congenital Heart Walk
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Congenital Heart Walk. Raising funds for CHD research is critically important to all Heart Warriors and Heart Angels, and personally very meaningful to me. Please read my story to understand why this is so important to me an my family:
My nephew Sammy was born on October 15,2017 with a CHD called Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries or (d-TGA). The two main arteries carrying blood out of the heart were switched.
Oxygen-poor blood from the body enters the right side of the heart. But, instead of going to the lungs, the blood is pumped directly back out to the rest of the body through the aorta. Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs entering the heart is pumped straight back to the lungs through the main pulmonary artery.
My family was completely blind-sided by this, as every test performed showed a “perfect” pregnancy.
After necessary testing done immediate after birth, he needed surgery but wasn’t strong enough to be transported from Central DuPage Hospital to Ann & Robert H Lurie’s Children’s Hospital.
He fought extremely hard, but after many hours of fighting, he couldn’t fight anymore.
He will forever remain in our hearts and be our little angel looking down on us and future siblings.
By raising awareness, we can help others born with this or any CHD have a fighting chance to live a long healthy life.
1 in 3,300 babies born in the U.S are affected with this defect.
Thank you for visiting our Congenital Heart Walk team fundraising page.
If you would prefer making a tax deductible donation, all funds raised will go to benefit CHD research and other much needed programs and tests. Please help us to fund CHD research by making a donation to our personal fundraising page. Together we can make a life-saving difference!
