Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Congenital Heart Walk. Raising funds for CHD research is critically important to all Heart Warriors and Heart Angels, and personally very meaningful to me.
My son, Asher, was born in July 2019 with a complex CHD called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Essentially Asher only has half a heart. There is no cure for HLHS, instead there are 3 palliative open heart surgeries that allow doctors to essentially re-route the plumbing of his heart so that the right side of his heart, the only functioning side, does all the work.
Asher has had the first two of the three surgeries. He had the first one when he was only 5 days old. He had the second one at 5 months old. There are always ups and downs of recovery but overall Asher did great. His left vocal cord was paralyzed during his first surgery, causing him to silently aspirate while feeding. As a result Asher got a feeding tube placed when he was only a week old. He still has a g-tube today.
Asher will turn 2 in July and it's amazing to think about all the things he's accomplished this past year. A year ago Asher was not able to crawl, he could not walk, and he was only eating a small amount by mouth each day. Today, he doesn't just walk, he runs. Each day he now eats about 50-75% of his calories by mouth. He is able to talk in 3 word sentences. He went to the second party of his life (a pandemic really hurts a kid's social life!). He is SO happy.
We are full of hope for Asher's future. We are hopeful he will not only have a long life, but also a fulfilling life. One where his CHD does not hold him back from living his dreams, whatever those may be. We are so thankful for the families that have walked this path before us and made this hope possible. We are excited to participate in this walk to be able to help pave an even brighter future for those born with CHD in the future.
We can't do this alone. Please help us to fund CHD research by making a donation to my personal fundraising page. Even better, join our team and walk with us. Their fight is our fight. Together we can make a life-saving difference!
