Our CHD Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Congenital Heart Walk. Raising funds for CHD research is critically important to all Heart Warriors and Heart Angels, and personally very meaningful to my family and I.
Unfortunately, Josh & I were introduced to CHD very unexpectedly. I had many ultrasounds before Bram was born because I was high risk and Bram's CHD was never detected. We did not learn of his VSD until he had been in the NICU a couple of days for a completely different issue.
Bram had a CHD known as VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect). He basically had a hole in his heart that over time did not close up as many VSDs do. After months of not gaining enough weight and delayed development becuase his heart was not able to keep up with the blood supply needed due to the hole in his heart we knew it was time to have it repaired. Bram had open heart surgery to repair his VSD by Dr. Alsoufi on May 5th, 2015. Dr. Alsoufi went in and used a meshed patch to close up Brams heart hole. Surgery went great eventhough it took a long time. We all spent a few days in the hospital as he healed and all the tubes and wires came off his not even 1 year old body.
We are so greatful to the amazing staff and doctors at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston. We know that with out them and the research that has been done for CHD things could have been a whole lot different.
Now our Bram-man is a thriving 5.5 year old. Besides a super cool scar, there have been no issues with his heart since the day we left the hospital. We are now on bi-yearly Cardiology appointments.
I do ask you to please help us to fund CHD research by making a donation to my personal fundraising page. Together we can make a life-saving difference!
