Auntie Katie Walks for #TeamAmelia
Being the auntie of a heart warrior has been both one of the greatest blessings and greatest challenges in my life, but this challenge is nothing compared to the challenges faced by my favorite heart warrior Amelia.
When my sister and brother-in-law first found out their baby would be a heart baby I cannot begin to imagine what went through their minds or how their hearts felt as they processed what would quickly become the new normal. But I know what my heart felt and how my brain processed through watching my sweet niece lay in a hospital bed for weeks on end. It's for this and so much more that I walk for a cure.
Heart warriors are my heroes, and Amelia is my favorite. I've never known an individual who smiles so much despite the daily struggles and hardships she faces. She's spent more time in the hospital than most do in their entire lives, experienced procedures one after the next as doctors try to find answers to questions that seem to have no end, and fought for her life after her first surgery ended with her coding and being placed on heart and lung bypass as her tiny heart recovered from major surgery at one month of age.
I walk so that one day families won't need to hear "There's something wrong with your babies heart". Our family has been beyond blessed in this journey, and we would like to give back to a cause that fights for these sweet heart warriors and honors those heart angels who were gone way too soon. Thank you for your help in raising funds for critical research! God Bless!
