"Our sweet Amelia was born with a CHD known as #TricuspidAtresia, which basically means the right side of her heart never developed. God blessed us with a month at home before Amelia’s first open-heart procedure. There were complications following that caused Amelia to face cardiac arrest for near an hour.
This arrest caused additional medical needs and concerns, but Amelia fought the hard fight and God gave us another miracle. Our biggest hero, Amelia, smiles and maintains a positive attitude through every obstacle she overcomes. She is a true blessing to each and every person she comes in contact with and the best big sister to Eden. We are thankful to live in a time where medicine is advanced enough to be able to mend Amelia’s heart through a series of open-heart surgeries.
These surgeries don’t “cure” her CHD, but they allow Amelia to survive with half a heart. She had what should hopefully be her final open-heart surgery this past year, and continues to grow. Amelia recently started pre-school and she LOVES it!!
On May 23rd, we will walk to raise awareness so other families are better prepared when they hear those dreaded words “there’s something wrong with your baby’s heart”, and also to raise money so that research can continue to find ways to help mend these special hearts.” – Heather And Derek Baum (Amelia’s parents and Team Captains) and Kathleen Lay (Auntie Katie, Team Captain)
